**Research interests:** Migration; urban governance; legal status and access to services; identity and social integration; and qualitative research.

**Bio:** Gülce Şafak Özdemir is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow and holds a PhD in sociology from Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She studies migration, urban governance, and the politics of (in)visibility in European cities. Gülce also serves on the Executive Committee of the Council for European Studies, co-chairing its Immigration Research Network.

**Research summary:** I hold a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). I am an incoming MSCA Fellow at the University of Birmingham and a Weatherhead Scholar at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs (WCFIA) at Harvard University.

My research project, VIMUS – (In)Visibility of Illegalized Migrants across Urban Settings, explores how urban environments shape the experiences of illegalized migrants. The project aims to understand the socio-political processes through which these individuals are rendered visible or invisible in public space and discourse. During my time at WCFIA, I will conduct a critical discourse analysis of policies concerning illegalized migrants, classifying them through the lenses of stigmatization, marginalization, and recognition.
