**Research interests**: Gender/sexuality, race, sociology of law, statecraft, empire, qualitative research methods.

**Bio**: I work at the intersection of the sociologies of gender/sexuality, race, statecraft, and law, with substantive interests in colonial and postcolonial histories, migration, epistemology, and violence. The dissertation and book project, "The Rainbow Nation and the Gays it Excludes," explores postcolonial statecraft in the context of increasingly polarized contemporary global politics around asylum and gay rights. I have also explored my research interests through collaborative projects on the sociological construction of knowledge about sexual violence, campus sexual assault, abortion law, and Germany’s genocides in Namibia (1904-1909) and Europe (1933-1945).

I hold a PhD in Sociology from the University of Michigan, and my academic work has been published or is forthcoming in *The Annual Review of Sociology, Contexts, Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society,* and an edited volume on *East African Queer and Trans Displacements* (Bloomsbury), among other outlets.
