Research interests: Racialized authoritarianism, subjectification and the transformation of large scale institutions (such as citizenship and the welfare state).
Anna is working on her first book, “Un/Wanted: Race, Sovereignty and the Governance of Expendable Populations," which reframes the citizenship histories of Germany and Japan around the idea of expendable populations and shows how nationality principles are routinely circumvented when this serves geopolitical and other state interests. Her second project, “Racial Vision: Failed Projects of Human Difference” brings together the fields of engineering, computation and the history of science under a sociological umbrella to study abandoned scientific projects.
