Arnaud Esquerre's work unfolds according to three lines of research. The first axis deals with the movements of the contemporary State, emphasizing the relation to the psyche (through the question of the "brainwashing" associated with groups called "cults"), and on the relation to the body (especially on dead bodies). Following a second axis, Arnaud Esquerre explores what we generally consider as
"beliefs", focusing on studying different linguistic forms, such as the predictions of the end of the world, astrological predictions, narratives relating extraterrestrial events. A third axis focuses on variations in wealth: enriching things and people, in an "enrichment economy", that exploits the past ; or variations in wealth by gambling.
