Research interests: Environmental politics (climate change action and denial, biodiversity loss, water scarcity), science and technology studies, cultural conflict and political polarization, law and society, economic sociology, social and political theory, qualitative and computational methods.

Caleb studies the social dimensions of environmental problems, and especially the politics of environmental knowledge. His current book project looks at the case of the delta smelt, an endangered fish caught in the center of California's "water wars" analyzes the dynamic interplay of extractive infrastructure, science, law, and public sphere controversy. Caleb also has projects on the politicization of face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the use of AI in the field of environmental conservation. His second book-length project will focus on how the environment became an object of America’s partisan culture wars.
