Research interests: Comparative cultural sociology; cultural inequality and symbolic violence; social theory; history of human sciences; material culture; urban ethnography and spatial sociology; and phenomenology.
Research summary: I am a cultural sociologist and social theorist interested in reciprocal conditioning between experience of space and culture, especially how and why certain kinds of shared spaces (or lack thereof) promote/demote resilience and realization of social values such as inclusion. One of my current projects asks ‘what was blocked and unlocked due to lockdown and why we should care?’ I aim to unpack this problem by fusing qualitative tools of cultural sociology and phenomenology in comparative contexts. Another line of research focuses on processes of disciplinary and transdisciplinary canonization in social and human sciences, and thus aims to understand how recognition gaps arise and persist and with what effects.
