Research summary: I'm a sociologist and demographer studying family demography, gender inequality, and meritocracy, with published work in Demography, Demographic Research, and Research in Higher Education. My ongoing book project examines how “imagined futures” shape gendered educational trajectories among students at selective high schools in Japan. Another area of my research focuses on documenting and understanding the causes of "lowest-low" fertility in East Asia.
