Ioana works on crisis politics. She is particularly interested in how we decide — or contest — being ‘in crisis’, and the reactions resulting from such decisions. Ioana's taken this on both in terms of state politics — focusing on human rights and post-war transitions — and everyday experiences of stigma, discrimination, and hopelessness. Ioana is currently pursuing two projects: 1) contesting crisis definitions with a focus on climate change, and 2) the meaning of emergency in authoritarian regimes.
