Research summary: My research locates in cultural sociology, and intersects with sociology, political science, and education. I am particularly interested in studying the social stratification of lifestyles and culture. My dissertation in sociology (2023) addressed the intergenerational transmission of lifestyles. Recently, I have studied working-class culture and its evolution over time in Finland, and higher education policy networks in Finland and the European Union. In my current research project, Political Recognition of the Working-Class Youth, I study how young working-class people in Finland define themselves and articulate their political concerns, and how they experience themselves and their concerns being recognized by the Finnish political system. I use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including mixed-methods designs. By original training I am a high school teacher of mathematics, physics, and philosophy.
