Bio: Luuc Brans is a PhD candidate in Cultural Sociology at KU Leuven, Belgium. He researches the impact of political pressures and activism on the transnational cultural field of fashion. Luuc focuses on key players (‘cultural intermediaries’) such as fashion editors, designers, and brand executives, and their response to activism around fashion’s controversial track record on sustainability and diversity. In addition, Luuc conducts research with colleagues in Finland on the role of beauty ideals in online communities of involuntary celibate men.

Luuc previously graduated with distinction in Nationalism Studies (MA, U of Edinburgh) and has taught at the University of Amsterdam and KU Leuven. He curates the podcast ‘Culture and Inequality’ for the European Centre for the study of Culture & Inequality.
