Research interests: Immigration, race, education, sociology of culture, inequality, meritocracy and Asian Americans.

Natasha is currently finishing a book on the growth of Asian American families in upper middle class American suburbs, and the tensions that ensue around what it means to be a “good” parent. The book argues that as Asian American youth outperform their white peers academically, white parents employ strategies to maintain their group status, and that both Asian and white families living in well-off suburban communities benefit from policies of racial and class exclusion designed to disadvantage African Americans. She is also collecting new data on how families in the community have responded to school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
