Peter received his PhD in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2022 and holds an MPhil in Sociology from the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on culture, social inequality, and education. Peter’s current research examines the processes by which inequalities are reproduced, specifically in elementary schools. Using extensive ethnographic observations and interviews with students, parents, and teachers, Peter shows the ways that class, race, and gender inequalities are transmitted through socialization and discrimination. His work has been published in the American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, Bulletin of Sociological Methodology, and Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion and has been funded by the National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation. Peter’s work has also received numerous awards from the American Sociological Association and Eastern Sociological Society.
