Sandra Portocarrero is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Columbia University. She was a 2018-2019 visiting doctoral student in the department of Sociology at Harvard University. She is currently a visiting fellow at the Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine. Sandra holds a B.A. in Sociology with high honors from the University of California at Berkeley, and a M.A. and MPhil in Sociology from Columbia University. She studies issues related to diversity and inclusion. Sandra is currently working on a paper that uses an ethnographic approach to study how organizations foster the creation of stigmatized identities, using an elite university in Lima, Peru as a case. Sandra is a 2015 PD Soros fellow and a 2017 NSF GRFP fellow.
