Research interests: Comparative-historical sociology, global and transnational sociology, cultural sociology, humanitarian movements and political culture.

Shai currently researching US campus student activism on the Middle East, using both interviews and archival material from university archives. The project traces how student movement representations of justice have changed over the recent decades, and how they in turn have shaped the tactics activists employed. He is also completing a book (co-authored with Samuel Stabler) on the ways sociologists employ notions of the common good in order to determine academic quality.
