Research interests: Events, social change, political sociology, cultural sociology, cross-national comparisons and cultural repertoires.
Thijs is exploring the political and social consequences of events. During his time at the Weatherhead Center his aim is to turn his PhD thesis - "The Framing of 9/11 in the American, French and Dutch Public Spheres (2001-2015). A Contribution to the Sociology of Events"- into a book and to apply the theoretical ideas and methodological tools he developed in his dissertation to new event cases (such as COVID-19 and the climate crisis).
