Research interests: Globalization, international migration, citizenship, nationalism and ethnicity, political sociology, social theory, political ritual, and historical-comparative sociology.

Yossi's research focus is national rituals. This year he will examine two kinds of rituals: national days of remembrance and naturalization ceremonies that welcome new citizens. Yossi is specifically studying the cognitive and emotional effects of such rituals in order to learn how (and, indeed, whether) they produce national attachment, mark social boundaries and instill a sense of sacredness.
