Yuval Feinstein

Visiting Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, Harvard University (2021-2022); Senior Lecturer, Department of Sociology, University of Haifa (on-leave 2020-2022).
Affiliate, Weatherhead Research Cluster on Comparative Inequality and Inclusion (2020-2022).

Research interests: Nationalism, race and ethnicity, peace and war, political attitudes, political emotions, and collective behavior.

Yuval is exploring the way national identities—which are profound and emotionally-laden, but at the same time complex, contested, contextual, and malleable—influence political attitudes. He is especially interested in how national identities influence public support or opposition to the use of military power in international conflicts and public attitudes toward domestic ethnic/racial minorities and toward immigrants. His new book “Rallying around the Flag: National Honor, Respect, and Shifts in Public Opinion” is forcoming. This year he will be a visiting associate professor in the Harvard department of sociology, where he will be teaching two classes and a research seminar.
